Prunus salicina 'Burbank'
- Burbank Plum trees are a well-producing cultivar that will usually start to bear fruits in 2-3 years. It needs cross pollination from different Japanese plum cultivars in order to fruit. It can be used as a landscape flowering tree in spring or a shade tree in summer. Once ripe, the plums are a beautiful rounded fruit with red to purple skin and an amber yellow flesh. It can be eaten fresh of used for canning.
- Burbank plum requires cross-pollination with another Japanese plum variety (with a matching bloom time) growing within 100' ; Santa Rosa, Abundance and Shiro varieties are great options. Cross-pollination by a different variety is key to its growing and bearing success.
